Training-of-Trainers Program

Overview of HIV Infection & AIDS and
Offering HIV Testing In CBOs Serving High Risk Communities

Syracuse, NY: January 26—29, 2008

This four-day training will authorize health and human service agencies to conduct the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute approved Overview of HIV Infection and AIDS and Offering HIV Testing in CBOs Serving High Risk Communities training programs.  Agencies send a team of two trainers to this program.  Upon successful completion of the training, the agency becomes a member of the AIDS Institute's Authorized Training Agency (ATA) Initiative.

Topics to be covered:

  • Audience assessment strategies
  • Communication skills that can be used non-judgmentally and sensitively in the training room
  • Core concepts of adult learning
  • Strategies for handling difficult participants and challenging groups
  • Audio visual equipment and media methods
  • Different training methods and delivery techniques
  • Key components of program evaluation; and
  • Resources available for updating training skills

Written tests and peer presentations will be used to ensure participants can demonstrate effective training skills and knowledge of key content areas in AIDS Institute Overview of HIV Infection and AIDS and Offering HIV Testing in CBOs Serving High Risk Communities trainings. As part of the ATA Initiative, agencies must commit to delivering a minimum of one training per year.

Audience:
Training teams representing agencies that would like to be authorized to deliver AIDS Institute trainings on basic HIV/AIDS information and HIV testing.

Prerequisites:
Training team members must submit an application that includes information on prior training in basic HIV/AIDS information and HIV testing. Certificates/letters of attendance should be attached to the application. Applications are available from Family Ties Network, Inc.
